A delegation from the Department of Education of Shanxi Province and 16 higher education institutions in Shanxi visited The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) on 2 September 2026 to exchange views on higher education development and opportunities for collaboration. Led by Mr Lu Yongming, Deputy Director of the Degree Management and Postgraduate Education Division of the Department of Education of Shanxi Province, the delegation was warmly received by Professor David Tse, Acting Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research); Professor Chan Wai-sum, Dean of the School of Decision Sciences; Dr Brossa Wong, Registrar; Professor Choy Siu Kai, Dean of the Graduate School and Professor of the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Insurance; and Professor Liu Hai, Associate Dean (Research) of the School of Decision Sciences and Head and Professor of the Department of Computer Science.

During the meeting, Professor Tse introduced the University’s recent developments and its distinctive “Liberal + Professional” education model, highlighting HSUHK’s efforts to equip students with both professional knowledge and broad-based competencies. Mr Lu then shared the latest developments in the higher education sector and outlined directions for advancing higher education development in Shanxi Province. Representatives from the 16 participating institutions subsequently introduced their latest developments and shared their experiences in areas such as discipline development, talent cultivation, scientific research, and educational digitalisation.

Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including discipline planning, postgraduate education, artificial intelligence, information technology and interdisciplinary development, while also exploring opportunities for future collaboration.

Following the meeting, the delegation toured the campus and visited key facilities to gain a better understanding of HSUHK’s teaching, learning and research environment.

The visit enhanced mutual understanding between HSUHK and higher education institutions in Shanxi Province and provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen ties and foster future academic exchange.
