HSUHK Delegation Visits Tertiary Institutions and Digital Industries in Qingyuan

On 7 March 2025, an HSUHK delegation, led by Professor Simon Ho, President visited the Guangdong Construction Polytechnic (GDCP), the Guangdong Finance and Trade Vocational College (GDFTVC), and the Guangdong University of Finance (GDUF) in Qingyuan, and took the opportunity to explore the digital economy ecosystem in the city. This reciprocal visit was built upon discussions initiated with Mr Lin Kecong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Qingyuan Municipal Party Committee, Secretary-General, and Minister of the United Front Department on 4 January 2025, which aimed at deepening educational cooperation between Qingyuan and Hong Kong.

The delegation was received by Ms Yang Huan, Qingyuan Vice Mayor; Ms Zong Weiping, Deputy Secretary-General; and other government representatives. The visit began at GDCP, where HSUHK toured the Construction Safety Experience Hall and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base (Entrepreneurship Street). The delegation then proceeded to GDFTVC, to explore the self-developed “Beidou+” Digital Supply Chain Laboratory that integrates the Beidou Navigation Satellite System (BDS). At GDUF, Mr Liu Chunyang, Deputy Party Secretary; Mr Liu Feng, Vice-President; and other senior management introduced the University’s teaching and research facilities to the visitors. Its students also presented a choir and dance welcoming performance, providing the delegation with an immersive experience of the vibrant cultural atmosphere on its campus. Thereafter, a luncheon was hosted by Mr Lin Kecong at the Canteen of the People’s Government of Qingyuan Municipality, to continue discussions on the recent development of Qingyuan and Hong Kong. It was followed by a visit to the Yinglian Digital Economy Industrial Park, where HSUHK gained insights into the digital economy ecosystem and future developments in Qingyuan.

To conclude the visit, the HSUHK delegation engaged in comprehensive discussions with representatives from the Qingyuan Municipal People’s Government, and the senior management from GDUF and other tertiary institutions on a range of international education cooperation, including student exchanges, faculty training, curriculum collaboration, pathways of further studies, and financial executive training programmes, laying a foundation for future collaborations between Qingyuan and Hong Kong.
