On December 6 2024, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) welcomed a delegation from the La Salle Campus Barcelona Ramon Llull University (La Salle – URL), Spain, for a signing ceremony. Following discussions initiated at the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference and Exhibition in March 2024 in Perth, Australia, and the European Association for International Education (EAIE) Conference and Exhibition in September 2024 in Toulouse, France, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and Specific Exchange Agreement signifies a mutual commitment to enhancing academic exchanges between the two institutions.
Professor Joshua Mok, Acting President; Professor Jeanne Fu, Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience); Professor Liu Hai, Associate Dean (Research) of School of Decision Sciences; and Dr Ken Yau, Head of Global Affairs jointly welcomed the La Salle – URL delegation, led by Mr Josep Santos Fernández, General Director, who was accompanied by Dr Guiomar Corral, Dean of La Salle Digital Engineering School, and Professor Víctor Alves, Head of the International Relations Office.
At the ceremony, Professor Mok acknowledged the rich history of La Salle – URL, and shared the mission of HSUHK as an emerging and vibrant university. Mr Fernández emphasised that both institutions share a matching philosophy in many respects, and sustainability is a prime example of the shared core values. This creates opportunities for collaboration in academic exchange. In this context, HSUHK’s undergraduate programmes offered by the Department of Management under the School of Business, and the Department of Computer Science under the School of Decision Science were introduced; while La Salle – URL’s newly launched programmes, which integrate AI with various disciplines such as management, data science, and health engineering, were highlighted as a response to the demands of the global landscape. Both HSUHK and La Salle – URL embrace interdisciplinary studies, and are committed to fostering a comprehensive partnership in addition to student exchange.
The signing ceremony paves the way for a range of joint initiatives that will benefit both institutions. As they move forward, HSUHK and La Salle – URL are eager to explore new avenues for cooperation in education and research.
